Suffer X vs Suffer From X

Dear Experts

I understand that "Suffer with X" is Unidiomatic.

However, I find "Suffer from X" and "Suffer X" both Idiomatic.

Could you please if my understanding is fine. I am doubtful.

More importantly I am confused between the usage of "Suffer From X" and "Suffer X" in terms of impact on the meaning.

Request you to explain with examples.

Can you please let us know where you have seen "SUFFER X" as idiom. It doesn't sound good to me.

Example of suffer X:
Some cases are so severe that employees are forced to change careers and suffer chronic pain.

It could be that suffer X may be used if X is a consequence of something. and suffer from X used if X is that something.
e.g
suffer pain, suffer loss.

suffer from malaria, suffer from disease.

this actually sounds like a good way to think about it, but i don't know that this distinction has ever really been tested on the GMAT so you may be worrying too much about something that ultimately doesn't matter..
