Suggestion on Profile improvement

by rediscover.paras Tue Jul 05, 2011 4:26 am

Hello,

Graduated in 2009 with CGPA of 3.( BE in IT)
School passing examinations - 86% and 83%
I have just 2 years of experience.

Gmat Target Score : 700
I am planning to apply for MBA in 2013 or 2014.

I belong to "Indian male IT pool" so need suggestions on courses or other training or experience that I can undergo to improve chances in TOP B schools, as i have two more years to apply.

Does Distance Masters have any effect on the profile.
Or some diversified diploma Like Distance Dimploma in Economics from London Business School.

So basically what all can I do in coming years so as to improve my profile.

Thanks

Hi rediscover.paras,

Thanks for writing in. The key to breaking out of that pool is differentiation -- what are the unique experiences (job or non-job) that you bring to the class, that your candidates with similar resumes do not have. A previous Masters can help your case if you present it in a way that makes sense for your story. Why did you seek the first Masters? How does it fit into your reasons for seeking an MBA?

With a two-year head start I suggest really building out the extracurricular portion of your profile. Find a cause or group where you can dedicate a reasonable amount of time monthly and gain leadership experience. I also suggest keeping a running diary of significant experiences you have in the workplace and outside of work over the next two years. That way when it comes time to write your essays you'll have a full suite of memories to choose from.

Hope this is helpful and best of luck!
