* tenses

Hi,

Reproducing a question read in some other material.

Nina sketches with one hand while writing with another.
This is correct as both the actions are in present tense.

Nina sketched with one hand while writing with another. - I believe this action means, Nina completed sketching while writing. As per explanation, this is not the correct answer. Could you explain, what is a grammatical mistake? Or it is a more of a meaning mistake, that both should be a simultaneous activities?

Nina sketched with one hand while wrote with another. - This seems to be correct to me but meaning is different in this.

Question is, which sentence is wrong & why?

please read the forum rules: read-before-you-post-general-verbal-folder-guidelines-t2718.html

you can't post problems in this folder without giving the ORIGINAL SOURCE of the problem -- i.e., the company or author that first produced the problem (not, for instance, a forum or other secondhand source on which it has previously been posted).
if you don't know the original source, then, sorry, but you can't post the problem here.

this applies to MGMAT problems as well -- there are over three thousand problems in our database, so we won't recognize all of them from memory.

we will delete this thread within a week if the original source of the problem is not posted. thanks.

This is not an acceptable citation of a source.

Hi,

Mentioned sentences are not Original and from a particular source. I wrote those to mimic the actual grammar problem(not the actual sentence) that I want to discuss. There is somewhat this kind of question in SC grail. Please let me know if this needs to be deleted.

Thanks-

I don't know what "SC grail" is, but, whatever it is, it's probably not a very reliable source. (VERY few third-party SC sources are at all helpful. Stick with official problems; there are more than enough of them out there.)

Nina sketched with one hand while writing with another.

This sentence is fine. If your source says it's ungrammatical, then your source is wrong.

The only actual problem here is the fact that human beings only have 2 hands. So, it should say "the other", not "another". (Unless Nina is an octopus.)
But the GMAT won't test that.

Nina sketched with one hand while wrote with another.

This is incorrect because "wrote" doesn't have a subject.

If you replace "while wrote" with "while she wrote", then it's fine.
