The Blizzard - SC CH4 IN Action #10

by kramacha1979 Sun Feb 28, 2010 2:18 pm

A) The blizzard deposited more than a foot of snow on the train tracks, prompted the transit authority to shut down service temporarily, and causing discontent among commuters who were left stranded for hours

B) The blizzard deposited more than a foot of snow on the train tracks and prompted the transit authority to shut down service temporarily, causing discontent among commuters who were left stranded for hours

In the second example, Does S-V make sense together?
Can a blizzard prompt something? Only an onset of a blizzard can prompt something rite?

I know both A and B are wrong but was just curious about B ( assuming deposited and prompted actions are given equal weight-age)

What makes you think B is wrong? :) Your B as written is correct, it's just an illegal answer to the question because you've dropped the mandatory comma after "tracks". In your B, "deposited" is parallel to "prompted", with "causing" as a modifier, which is an acceptable way to write a sentence. To answer your other question, it seems to me that the blizzard itself was responsible for these effects rather than merely its onset.
