hmm.... I do see the subtle differences between " part of deal" and "development, event, action", but I don't think I can recognize word like that for the next time. I will try to use other ways to eliminate choices. :)
Anyway, GMAC is the boss.

Hello experts - i am struggling to understand what the author is trying to say with this sentence to begin with

Is the author saying

scenario # 1) There will be a 950 million $ purchase among a LARGER DEAL (say for example - 2 billion dollar purchase) -- 950 million $ is just a "Part" of an overall larger 2 billion dollar deal ?

Why is this interpretation not a legitimate one, especially given the word "Part" in each answer choice

OR

scenario 2) There is only a 950 million $ purchase and thats the only deal ?

If its scenario 2) -- why use the word "Part" at all ?

The word ""Part" in each answer choice is really forcing me to assume -- its perhaps scenario 2) perhaps

Thoughts

Hi Experts - in option B -- why is the present tense usage wrong exactly ?

There are many examples where modifiers have a different tense compared to the essential clause. Example :

In 2050 - Bezos will fly to mars, a planet that rotates around the sun

Essential clause in blue ---- future tense
Modifier in green ------------ present tense

The problem in this case is the meaning related to the tense used. In your example above, "a planet that rotates around the sun" is something that is presently true.

Let's apply this to the problem:

The company has just announced that it will purchase the color-printing division of a rival company, which means that this purchase has not yet been completed. Per the sentence, the purchase is also being made as part of a larger deal, which means that the full deal is not yet complete.

Saying the "deal that makes it the largest manufacturer" incorrectly makes it seem like the deal is already complete, introducing ambiguity in the sentence.

Hi JbhB682,

The sentence is saying that the $950 million purchase is part of a larger deal that's being made.

The phrase "part of" appears in every answer choice, so we can be clear that is the meaning that the author(s) intended.
