the country's building code

by manhhiep2509 Sat Dec 28, 2013 10:49 am

Hello

The sentence is the choice D of question 37 in review verbal 2.
I modified it so that I do not violate the forum.

"Last month the tornadoes destroyed some houses that have been build in violation of the country's building code"

Please explain why the OG explanation says that
"the verb tense illogically indicates that the houses have been constructed since the tornado".
Specifically, what indicates the destruction happened before the construction?

applying my knowledge and explanation of Ron about present perfect tense, I only see that the choice is incorrect because it does not separate the sequence of events, i.e. when the tornadoes the houses and when the houses were built.

Thank you.

"Have been ___ed" implies that either an action itself, or its effects/impact, continue into the present. So, "have been built" implies that the buildings are still there.
