IMO A.

Isn't mafia a collective noun? like a gang? Or does it depend on the context?

Can someone provide expert reply?

i believe the GMAT would consider Mafia a collective noun, in which case this becomes an invalid question because every choice uses "them" to refer to Mafia..

asax, please avoid referring to outside sources for insight into SC issues, because the GMAT has its own rulebook that may differ from rules you find elsewhere..

BTW if Mafia were plural, does that mean that the singular would be Mafium? :)
