the use of unlike

by manhhiep2509 Fri Jan 03, 2014 4:20 am

Hello.

My problem is related to question 66 of review verbal 2.

unlike with xxxx, yyyy

the OG explanation says "Unlike with is an incorrect idiom"

I am not satisfy with the explanation, so I tried to find another reason. Please take a look my explanation and see whether I am correct.

the use of "unlike" is incorrect because "unlike" is a preposition which must be followed by a noun, not by another preposition like "with".

Thank you.

Yes, "(un)like" should be followed by a noun (or equivalent, such as a pronoun -- those of, that of, etc.)
