The violent crime rate

by kramacha1979 Mon Jun 08, 2009 9:55 pm

The violent crime rate in meadowbrooks is 60% higher now than it was four years ago. The corresponding increase for Parkdale is only 10%. Hence MB residents are more likely to become victims of crime that PD residents

The argument above is flawed b/c it fails to take into account

A) Changes in pop. density in MD and PD over the last 4 years
B) how the Rate of Pop. growth in MD over last four years compares to the corresponding rate for PD
c) violent crime rates in MD and PD 4 years ago

..alrighty I am tired of typing now.... the rest two choices are out of scope and not including them here..
Gprep question
OA C

B is pretty close to. why is B wrong ? Since the premises are about crime rates, and the Conclusion is victims, I chose B right away ..

You have to find a flaw. Q talks about increase in rates and deduces that city with higher increase is more dreadful.

How about 4 years ago crime rate was 10% and now 70% in MB and 70% 4 years ago and 80% now in PD? Flawed right

To me B was not even close.
