I'm not expert but IMO "them" is used only as pronoun in place of plural noun and "these" can't be used as a noun on SC.

Let's wait for some experts reply though...

Can it be that
Them is used for live beings and These is used for non live beings?
I am not expert but trying to figure out.

Them is generally used as possessive pronouns (plural) like, These books belong to them. Generally them comes after verb.
These is generally used as to quote the relation (plural) and is used as a subject like, These mangoes are unripe. These people are rude.

I agree with some of what has been said. "Them" is used as an object, not a subject.

"The pears were ripe and I ate them."

"These" can be used with a subject and identifies which people or items are being referenced.

"These pears are delicious."
