Undergrad Degree info (for applicant to top MBA programs)

by g_bethanis Thu Nov 15, 2012 8:33 am

I completed the following undergraduate degree in a top class university:
B.S Computer Science

My overall GPA was 3.5. Is that considered a "Good" GPA for getting admitted to the top MBA programs? Or just average?

By the way, my high school degrees were exceptional. I finished first in my school and generally got very high grades. Should I include this info? Or MBA programs don't really care about high school performance? If yes, what's the best section of the application to fill in this info?

Many thanks.

Hi,

Impressive! The GPA is very strong, and with honours is also very positive. Well done. You should definitely include this information in your resume - I'm not sure you need to include it in an essay (unless it makes sense to work it in somewhere); they'll notice it in the resume. As for high school, this is usually not included in the resume unless you came from an exceptional high school like Andover.

All the best,
Mili

Hi George,

Remember that academics are only one dimension of your candidacy for business school. A lot also depends on your professional experience, extracurricular activities, community work and overall leadership capacity.

As far as academics go, you're strong - of course, I don't know your GMAT score and that factors heavily into your academic profile. But I don't know the rest of the profile, so it's difficult to say where you stand. This on it's own won't be enough for a top bschool.

Feel free to send me a little more info on your overall profile and I can try to give you an assessment.

Best,
Mili
