Usage of Demonstrative pronoun

by skumar94 Sat Jun 23, 2012 10:03 pm

My question is for OG12 question 82.
According to a recent poll, owning and living........
The question is posted on this post http://www.manhattangmat.com/forums/og-review-10th-sc-73-t1595.html

(B) as that for earlier generations
(E) as it was of earlier generations

I was confused between B and E.The reason was that I read it in the 8th Edition Strategy guide Pg 71 that,"that" can be used as a copy while "it" means the same exact thing. But, if I look into the question option E,which is the correct answer,I eliminated it on the basis that "it" refers to the same thing,i.e. the goals of the young adults.I therefore chose B as "that" indicates a copy of the
goal of the young adults.
Now, I agree that E demonstrates better parallelism over B, but which of the two errors should tip the scales in it's favour and why?

the biggest scale-tipping error here is that B uses "as" for comparison but fails to include a clause to the right of "as". remember, "as" can only compare clauses..
