Usage of verb-ing modifier with possessives

Hi

I read in one of SC OG problems- OG 2015 problem 7- that use of possessives with verb-ing is unwarranted. Please explain why is it so.

by the way—OG answer keys are FAR from perfect.
the work of creating the keys is not done by the authors/editors of the actual questions; rather, it is outsourced to people of substantially lesser ability.

very often, the answer keys are incomplete. less often—but still often enough—they're just flat-out wrong.
