Use of idiom-less than

Hi, I am very confused on the use of "less than".
Please suggest me which of the following is the correct version ?

-Individual contractors are paid less consistently than statutory employees
-Individual contractors are paid less consistently than are statutory employees.

Since I have my GMAT this Saturday, the replies will be really helpful.

either version is acceptable.
