Using 'As'

Can anyone of the experts let me know what should be the best choice here -

There are times, <as or like> now, that learning grammar becomes important.

neither. use "such as" because you are introducing an example..

Can I say -

Like in the previous case, the judge took an early break.

Are <LIKE + PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE> ever correct ?

no. "like" can only compare nouns. a prepositional phrase is not a noun..
