Verb before its subject

by yo4561 Sat Jan 30, 2021 4:51 pm

What are a few examples of when it would be possible to put a verb before its subject?

First, please accept our apologies for the late response. A tech glitch hid this folder from all logged-in Manhattan Prep staff for the first quarter of the year, and I’m still digging through the backlog.

Verb before subject ---> Subject before verb.

There are ten apples in the bowl ---> Ten apples are in the bowl.
There was no reason to leave now. ---> No reason existed to leave now.
Why would Larry go there? ---> Larry would go there if he were invited.
Would you like to try again? ---> I would like to try again.

So, typically this happens with questions and "there are" and "there were" constructions.
