verbal Guide, Advanced GMC Problem Set, Q#4

by soaringAlone Mon Apr 16, 2012 4:54 pm

In GMC Advanced Chapter

Although most consumers are suspicious of such offers, Colin wants to purchase the two-for-one vacation package.

Consumers suspect such offers is unidiomatic.

But the sentence

Many directors have a suspicion of there being an attempt by managers to conceal the extent of losses at the company.

Can be modified to

Many directors suspect that managers are trying to conceal the extent of losses at the company.

Could any one please explain when should I consider changing "suspicion of "or "suspicious of "to "suspect" ?

the difference here is that it's okay to suspect that something is true but you can only suspect something if that something is being accused of doing something suspicious. to answer your question about "changing" something, this is a non-issue. you will NEVER have to change something on the GMAT; all you should focus on is finding four wrong answers and then selecting the problem-free answer that remains..
