SC Guide, 6th Edition, Pg 141.

1. We are concerned about the forests AND ALSO the oceans. - SUSPECT.

Pg 145

2. We wore boots AND ALSO sandals. SUSPECT.

Pg 154

Q7. (D)

Many places are called Naples--- the cities in Italy and in Florida, AND ALSO a town in Clark County, South Dakota.

Why is the "AND ALSO" used here WRONG and not SUSPECT?

Is it because the COMMA (BEFORE AND) requires a full clause to follow?

Kindly guide me.

The comma doesn't make a difference here. You need to consider the meaning of the phrase 'and also'. Why use this phrase and not just the word 'and'? This should explain why the Naples example is incorrect and not just suspect.

It looks like you're approaching GMAT English as simply a bunch of abstract rules. I encourage you to consider the meaning of the sentences more.
