What are my chances?? Please advice

by val Tue Dec 22, 2009 7:39 pm

I was looking forward to apply to Fuqua business school, but I´m wondering what are my chances, I had looked into their website but I still feel unsure as whether applying is even worth it. The main problem is that even if accepted, I still need a very good scholarship in order to attend, and that would mean that the standarts would be even higher.

About me:
Female, Bolivian, Graduated in 2006 from one of the top 15 U.S. programs in International Business, GPA, 3.1, Gmat 650, work experience; 11 months at a local St. Louis Company, 8 months internship in Mexico City with one of the best business consulting companies, 9 months with a non for profit organization in Bolivia.

What do you think?...Fuqua´s stats are; 80% Range of GMAT score 640-750
80% Range of undergraduate GPA 3.01-3.83.

Thanks!!

Hi Val - thanks for your inquiry.

Based on the limited information, I think Duke may be a stretch. Both your gpa and gmat are within their 80% which is good, but both are at the lower end which might give them pause regarding your ability to handle the demanding work load. But my bigger concern is your work experience, which is more of a question than a concern - with 3 jobs in under 3 years, were you able to drive results, demonstrate leadership, make a difference? Did the jobs build on each other logically, or are they three very different kinds of jobs? How do they tie to your career goals? You do have global experience which is a strong point in your favor, but without knowing what your work story is like - or without knowing anything about your extracurriculars or community involvement, it would be premature to give you a stronger assessment.

Best of luck,
