Where Can I Get In? Low GPA & 750 GMAT

by JohnF416 Mon Nov 24, 2014 1:41 am

Hello,

I wanted to ask-what range of schools should I look to apply to?

Here are my stats:
2.75 GPA from average state school (Varsity track and field, all-american, 3x all-conference, partial scholarship, member of 2 national champion teams and 5 conference champion teams; also played walked onto the football team for 1 year - we were conference champions)

~top 25% of law school class (top 50 class)

Work history:
2.5 years in property management (promoted 2x, supervised 7 employees (all whom were older than I was at the time) at apartment building valued over $50MM.
2 years as paralegal at RE Finance law firm - closing loans for multifamily housing ranging from $2-30MM.
4 years at tech startup, which I co-founded (COO). Member of top SV accelerator, raised ~$10mm, helped build company to $1mm run-rate and staff of 20 employees.

GMAT - 750 (49q, 42v, IR7)

Any chance at H/S/W? Outside of those, Darden, Fuqua, UNC, Gtown, and Haas interest me most. Any chance at scholarships at any schools on that level?

Hi there,

Congrats on the fabulous GMAT! That really helps. Your work experience is interesting and diverse and includes some leadership plus the entrepreneurial experience; you'll need to explain your choices and career path, and why you want the MBA... that description/explanation can make a real impact on your chances of admission.

Unfortunately that undergrad GPA does make it very challenging to get into top 5 or so schools, even with the great GMAT. Perhaps not impossible but very rare for many acceptances below a 3.0.

The other schools you mentioned would hopefully be within reach; perhaps Haas a bit tougher than the others mentioned. As for scholarships, could be tough with your GPA to be honest; they are pretty limited at most schools.

Let us know what other q's you have and good luck to you!
