WHICH MODIFIER

by karinab722 Wed Aug 06, 2014 10:44 am

this is from a "800 score"practice test -

"the poet william blake reportedly experienced visions of GOd from a very early age , whom , he claimed, continued to return to him throughout his childhood

answer -
which, he claimed , continued to return to him throughout his childhood

as per Manhattan SC guide, "which"should touch the noun it modifies. the "which "in the ans refers to visions even though it doesn't touch this noun. Please explain this exception. Thanks!

The 800score SC problems have lots of issues. You're correct that this usage is problematic.

More importantly—If you're reviewing in sufficient depth, you shouldn't need any materials other than GMAC's and some of ours. If you are "exhausting" those resources and are constantly looking for others, then you're spending too much time simply doing problems, and not nearly enough time reviewing and learning from them.
