which schools should I apply to?

by Wavechaser365 Wed Jan 23, 2013 10:19 pm

Just took my GMAT today. Scored 700 (Quant 45, Verbal 40). Never want to see another GMAT book again haha.

GPA: (from a small school) 3.66/4.0
7+ years work experience in casino/hospitality in analytic, management, operations and marketing.

No real community service except in college.

Which schools would be good for me. Below are the 5 schools that I sent my scores to:

1) Arizona State University - W.P. Carey
2) University of Florida
3) UMass - Amherst
4) Washington State
5) Penn State - Smeal

Would it be in my interest to apply to some higher ranked programs such as Duke, Harvard, Stanford and Cornell?

Thanks
Victor

Hi Victor -

Congrats on being done with the test :)

I think these schools are fine but I do think you can aim higher if you'd like to. Harvard and Stanford are going to be out of reach, but I think that Duke, Darden, UCLA, NYU, even Michigan would be fair game. Depends what you are looking for in a program and what you want to do afterwards, but I do think you can target some higher ranked programs if they appeal to you.

Good luck,
Mili

Thank you for your response Mili.

I dont have the luxury of leaving the workplace for 2 years, so I have to pick from schools that offer a distance learning program.

I have just submitted my application to ASU's online program about 10 days ago, and will be submitting to the rest of the schools within the next week.

What is average time frame before I hear a response from the schools?

Thank you,
Victor

Hi Victor,

Response times can vary. For R2 applications, you'll usually hear back by March/April timeframe. For R3, you should hear back by May in most cases.

Best of luck,
Mili
