'Will participate' Vs 'Will be participating'

by Aquamarine Mon Jul 23, 2012 6:55 pm

How are these two sentences different ?

1. Joe will participate in the competition this summer.
2. Joe will be participating in the competition this summer.

Thanks

"will participate" indicates a one-time participation, perhaps for a competition that lasts only one day. "will be participating" is more ongoing and would be appropriate if the competition lasted the whole summer..
