Word Translation 4th Ed. Chapter 2 Q:5, 14, and 15

by thatsku Mon Dec 28, 2009 6:55 am

I have no problems setting up the RTD table, but I have a question on the "distance" parts when setting up my equation.

#5 and #15 has the two entities (e.g. people, trains) going in the same direction, and I see the answer sets the "distance" parts of the two entities equal to each other. The problems are asking when these two entities will meet.

#14 has the two entities going in opposite directions, and I see the answer sets the "distance" parts of the two entities to the total distance between the starting and ending points. The problem is asking when these two entities will meet.

For #14, it seems intuitive to set the "distance" parts of both entities to each other like the solution for #5 and #15.

Am I missing something here?

I'd be happy to type in the questions if my post doesn't make any sense.
