Back ground info&premise

Hello,

Sometimes I'm not sure the sentence is background info or is premise...even I thought it may be related to the core, when I read your explanations, it's not listed as a premise.
Could you tell me how I can distinguish them again?
Also...Ultimately if we only need to care about the core in argument, does that mean we can ignore background info? Or would it help us in some way?
I might do too many questions and lose some important basics?:|

Hey Strawberry,

The definition of background info is that it isn't relevant to the actual work you have to do.

As for differentiating, just remember this: Anything that supports the conclusion is a premise. Anything that has no effect on the conclusion is background. That should be enough, as long as you can always find the conclusion!
