Good question! I think some explanation is required here. The dots simply represent C, D, and E. So if C were assigned 1 dot, and D were assigned 2 dots, then E would represent 3 dots.
They're sort of like place holders, so that if you were to put C and D on Tuesday, you would be able to quickly see that E must be assigned to Wednesday.
Those assignments can vary too! So if you were to place C and E on Wednesday, you would know to assign D to any day box with 3 dots.
