I understand this game, but I found it very unusual to diagram. Can someone please advise me how to set this up?

Are games like this, that are essentially math problems common? This completely derailed me when taking this as a practice test.

Not common at all.

Games have normalized quite a bit since the early days. That doesn't make them easier, overall, but we're less often in totally new waters.
