Diagram

by sbuzzetto10 Fri May 27, 2011 4:49 pm

This game with its 3 different elements (ranking, criteria, town) took me way too long to get through. It seemed like I was constantly having to make mini-diagrams and filling in so many things for each question that I was spending an unnecessary amount of time on each. Could someone post a diagram for this one and also explain how you could attack the questions without spending time filling in a million things each time?

Thankss!

sbuzzetto---so when I saw question 20, I decided to just draw out all possibilities. since Rc<Rf, and QS are already arranged at 4,5 for f, Rf can be only 2 or 3. Also, combined with Tf<Pf, there are only two possibilities for f: TPRQS or TRPQS. for TPRQS, Rc could be 1 or 2; and for TRPQS, Rc can only be 1.

so I had three diagrams covering all possibilities

c: P R T S Q
Q R T S P
l: T/S Q R P T/S
f: T P R Q S

or
c: R P T S Q
l: T/S Q R P T/S
f: T R P Q S

or
c: R P T S Q
l: T/S Q R P T/S
f: T P R Q S

with these digrams, it is very smooth to solve all remaining questions.

hope this helps. I solved this game in 8 mins, which I'm sure many of you do better. I would be very intersted in knowing other methods that are less mechanic than mine.

thanks

Hey guys!

This game actually isn't too bad with the right diagram. You're actually told a ton of "absolute" information in the constraints, and you want to get all of that down as clearly as possible.

The key inferences here are:

1. That because Q has to have 3 different rankings, Q can only be ranked 1 or 5 in Climate.

2. That because R has to rank better in Climate than Friendliness, R must be 1 or 2 in Climate and 2 or 3 in Friendliness.

Couple these with the T--P rule for Friendliness, and the game is easier. (See attached diagram.)

Hope this helps!
