Welcome! Sorry about the delay in getting around to this one.

Like most RC passages, the author reveals her main point / purpose by the end of the first paragraph.
PURPOSE: to highlight a distinction
TOPIC: the meaning of Hopi names
MAIN POINT: The meaning of Hopi names is different from how European thinkers often think of names, because Hopi names have historical meaning / assigned identity / almost-poetic form.

P1:
Identify the two European ways of thinking about names (1. meaningless marks that identify us / 2. instruments of social classification) so that she can demonstrate how Hopi names transcend that categorization.

P2:
Background info on Hopi names (you can get several throughout life, and they're given to you by an adult outside your family)

P3:
More info on Hopi names (an example showing how names can have historical meaning and an almost-poetic density)

P4:
Acknowledges tie in to the two European names but reiterates that Hopi names do more than just those two functions and implores interpreters to understand Hopi names on their own terms.

Hope this helps.
