Thanks for the helpful explanations! When untimed, these questions felt fairly easy, but when faced with time pressure and needing to track down all these word mentions in the passages, my brain exploded.
Do you have any tips in tackling the "in line whatever of paragraph whatever" questions? They are quite time-consuming.

"New evidence cannot be tested in the [ _______ ] of the adversarial system."
in the context of the adversarial system?
in the rigorous environment of the adversarial system?
in the process of the adversarial system?
The question stem is saying, which of these words is used in passage B to also refer to the
context/environment/process of the adversarial system?
(A) temptation is referring to appellate courts, who do not have an adversarial system
(B) credibility is referring to expert testimony, not to the context/process of the adversarial system.
(C) engine is referring to cross examination, which is part of the context/process of the adversarial system.
(D) function is referring to the fact-finding of the trial courts. Trial courts DO have an adversarial system, but we're not referring to the adversarial part here (the cross-examination) as we were in (C).
(E) medium is referring to source of evidence, be it internet / treatise / text.
It's helpful here if you know the definition of 'crucible', which is something like "an arduous, high-pressure affair".
Describing the adversarial system that way is most likely a reference to cross-examining, where things get scrutinized and contentious.
