Re: Q1 - Ming: Since trans fat is

by ManhattanPrepLSAT1 Fri Dec 31, 1999 8:00 pm

Question Type:
Misinterpretation

Stimulus Breakdown:
Ming says that it's a good thing that cookie manufacturers have eliminated the use of trans fats from their products. Carol wonders why that is good, since even without trans fats eating desserts is not healthy.

Answer Anticipation:
Caro's remarks suggest that she misinterpreted Ming's statements to be suggesting that now that desserts that do not include trans fats are good for you.

Correct Answer:
(B)

Answer Choice Analysis:
(A) is too specific. This relative comparison is not challenged by Carol.

(B) is correct. This is exactly the point agains which Carol argues.

(C) is too strong. Carol does not suggest that a food could be something other than either healthy or unhealthy.

(D) negates the logic of the claim that Carol is challenging.

(E) is out of scope. What consumers should purchase is not the issue.

Takeaway/Pattern: Reasoning: Conditional Logic

Q1 - Ming: Since trans fat is

by JodyJameson Sun Oct 09, 2016 5:38 pm

While I don't like the other answer choices, I'm not wild about the correct answer choice either. For some reason, I just can't see how that is Carol's interpretation of Ming's remarks.

I'm not so interested as to why "C" is correct, but how I should approach problems like this in future.

Hi Jody, I think the issue lies in your answer key. Answer choice (B) is correct. Hopefully that's enough to clear up the confusion, but if not, a full explanation will be posted below.
