Q1 - Structure of present school calendar

by Marky Mark Wed Jun 26, 2019 1:57 pm

Question type: Necessary assumption

Conclusion: Long breaks should be removed from the school calendar

Support: Agricultural life is no longer part of most citizens' lives, so we can change the calendar to serve the interests of our children.

Nec Assumption: Long breaks are not serving the interests of our children.

A. I picked this one at first, because it strengthens the argument; however, it's not necessary, it just strengthens.
B. This argues for the opposite of what is argued in the passage.
C. I don't see how this is relevant to the argument of "remove long breaks to serve the best interest of children." This answer misses the point of author's argument.
D. Does serving agricultural life benefit students by removing long breaks? I don't see how.
E. (Right) Yes - the necessary assumption is that shorter breaks do actually serve the interests of children.
