Why the answer is (C)?

(A) no, this was the sentimental novels that came before her

(B) no, this was an aspect of the works of the "local colorists" that Chopin did not follow

(C) yes! Detachment is mentioned as a reaction against the earlier sentimental novels. Chopin employed this "convention" of the local colorists work yet told different stories (paragraph 3).

(D) Chopin did not employ strong plot lines (last paragraph)

(E) Chopin did this, but it was "unlike" the other authors of the day.

Nowhere in paragraph 3 does it say that Chopin used a detached narrative stance, only that she used "the conventions of the local colorists". That convention doesn't necessarily have to be a detached narrative stance.

Yeah but if you look in paragraph 2 lines 20-22, local colorists are compared to anthropologists who observed culture and character with almost scientific detachment.
