Having a little trouble finding support for A here. Based on the passage i was looking for something to do with the first two sentences of paragraph 2 about Curies lack of knowledge of the radiation process but was disappointed when i didnt find any answer choice addressing this

Well, the question actually asks about the time when Curie began studying, and this is discussed in the first paragraph...

line 10: Curie discovered (in pitchblende) two previously unknown elements.

From this, we can infer that when she began, those radioactive elements were not known. This supports (A).

(B) is too specific to be supported
(C) attempts to describe the paragraph regarding chemists and physicists, but they did not actually have rival theories regarding radiation - they simply had different views on the atom
(D) is unsupported
(E) is entirely unsupported
