Q10

by jones.mchandler Sun Nov 16, 2014 3:02 pm

Correct answer: D

I was between C and D, and ended up picking C. The first "new plant discovered" seemed to correspond with passage in that the economist "discovered", or found, a new economy within a multiplayer games, and the second "scientists debate" seemed to correspond to the passage B in that the author of passage B states his/her opinion regarding the application of tax law to multiplayer games, and in the last paragraph provides an alternate opinion to his/her own.

In D, the title for passage A seemed a little off ("creating new species").

Could someone explain why C is wrong?

ETA: just to reinforce my reasoning for C, and hopefully make my reasoning easier to correct, Q7 from this passage also highlights why I liked C. In Q7, TCR is B, where passage A is titled "an economist discovers new economic territory". This seems analogous to the "new planet discovered in solar systems" in Q10. So is C wrong because of it's title for passage B?

The problem with (C) is the second part. "Scientists Debate" sounds balanced — like it's reporting on the debate. Passage (B) actually has a very clear opinion of how law applies to the situation, which matches (D)'s second title — both are about how law applies. Finally, the first title in (D) is actually fitting because the creation of a currency is like the creation of a species.

As for the others:

(A) misses the point about law and about the creation of something new.
(B) is the same way.
(E) makes taxes a thing for Passage A which it isn't, at all.

Hope this helps!

Ok...I see how the second part of D misses the mark for Passage B. I didn't fully consider the implications of the "debate" aspect of the title. Thank you!
