On this question type I think it's helpful to prephrase up-front what the situation you're trying to parallel is: "one culture influencing its descendants"

Answer choice B looked good at first, until you read the second part of the sentence: "....often INFLUENCES music being composed on the African continent".


This part makes the answer incorrect because a 'reverse' influence is never described in the passage. In fact, in the passage they only specify that the influence only goes *one* way, namely African crafts influencing African-American art.

I think C isn't perfect either because the subjects are Chinese 'immigrants', not natives of Chinese heritage, but it's the only answer that most closely parallels the situation.

Yes, I agree. Good point about the usefulness of pre-phrasing an answer.
