Q13 - Gaining access to computers without authorization

by roflcoptersoisoi Sat Jul 02, 2016 1:28 pm

Joyriding:
Yolanda: Physically endangers people whereas only intellectually property is harmed in the case of computer crimes
Arjun: N/A

Yolanda: Joyriding is more serious than breaking into computer systems. (Only IP is damaged in computer systems and joyriding physically damages people)
Arjun: Joyriding is not more serious than breaking into computer systems ( Damaging IP can lead to physical damages to people)

Unauthorized use of medical systems:
Arjun: Could damage data systems on which human lives depend, therefore computer crimes also cause physical harm to people
Yolanda: N/A

(A) This is unique to Yolanda's argument, eliminate
(B) None of them discuss this.
(C) They are not arguing which is most criminal, but which is most dangerous.
(D) Bingo. This is our correct answer. Yolanda argues that joyriding in a stolen car is more dangerous than breaking into a computer system because the former can physically harm people, whereas in the latter nobody is in physical danger. Arjun refutes this conclusion by giving an example (break in of medical systems) in which unauthorized use of systems can physically endanger people..
(E) They both seem to agree that private systems is a dangerous crime. Medical systems in the case of Arjun and Joyriding in the case of Yolanda, eliminate.

Thanks for posting this explanation!

This part (above) I see as misleading given that the answer is (D). Arjun disagrees with the claim that IP doesn't hurt people physically. And I think this part of your explanation could be read to imply otherwise.

Other than that, well done!
