Q13

by didi0504 Fri Oct 22, 2010 7:26 pm

Q13, I got the answer A by process of elimination, but I still don't quite understand why A is the correct answer.

Thank you!

Re: PT32, S2, P2, Q13 - Multicultural Education

Let's start by making sure we correctly understood the criticism of the second version of multicultural education - which is that the second version still uses the methods of social scientific examination. Basically it says that using one's own methods of investigation to understand another culture implies bias.

According the criticism of the second version, we should adopt the methods of investigation of the culture that is being examined.

The reason that answer choice (A) would provide a legitimate objection to this criticism is that it would make it impossible to do anything other than follow the second version of multicultural education. If one couldn't adopt any other methods, then the criticism is fruitless - there's nothing we can do about it! We'd simply have to examine other cultures with the methods of investigation of our own culture.

Does that clear this one up?

treat it like a weaken question from LR. the conclusion is to truly understands we have to adopt their perspective. a valid weakener would be that the necessary condition is impossible.

B. why do we care whether what some societies do.
C. same as B
D. western cultures achievement? way out of scope
E. appreciating? irrelevant

Hi, I think A is pretty good, but I'm a bit confused about C. Here's an example of my logic.
Now, we adopt the perspectives of a non-Western culture (named Culture-B), as suggested at the end of the passage.
But in Culture-B, we need to study all other cultures using the Culture-B value system.
Then, we have actually not solved the problem of cultural chauvinism, it is just another form of chauvinism - the Culture-B centric chauvinism.
Is it a kind of objection to the criticism?
Thanks for any explanation!
