Per the answer sheet, the correct answer is D. The coach must select Terrell to run in the track meet. But why is that the case? I must be missing something in the language that says the coach must select?

you have 4 spaces that must be filed (in-group), and one space which indicates the runner not selected for the team (out group.)

so let's fill them in

see the problem? if Q is selected, then T must also be selected, however T is in the out group. If we bring T over to the in group

we have violated the premise of the game, which is that only 4/5 runners are selected.

Therefore, T must always be selected, because if it isn't, Q can't be selected because if Q is selected, then so is T.
