Just to add on to the explanation above, several places in the passage differentiate identifying the individual with poetic quality as separate concepts, indicating that identifying the individual is not related to the poetic quality of the name.
L12-19: "Among the Hopi of the southwestern US, names often refer to historical or ritual events in order both to place individuals within society and to confer identity upon them. FURTHERMORE, the images used to evoke those event suggest that Hopi names can be seen as a type of poetic composition."
The ID of the name and the poetic quality are seen as different concepts.
And last paragraph L49-51: "They indicate social relationships—but only indirectly—and they individuate persons. Equally important, though, is their poetic quality."
Again, they are described separately. Definitely a close reading question. I didn't get this one until I was reviewing the section.
