Q14

"The passage most strongly suggests...author would agree.."

Where do we see the author discuss public opinion -- I understand that this is a strongly suggests question, but I am not sure how we get to AC C?

Thanks!

Question Type:
Author Opinion

Answer expected in lines/paragraph:
3rd paragraph, in particular 41-45 and 47-49.

Any prephrase?
The architectural phase of Gray's career reiterated the prevailing themes: hidden details, simple forms, attention to detail for both inside and outside. We also know that Gray thought about how to coordinate the interior with the exterior and had some cool multi-purpose deatils inside.

Correct answer:
C

Answer choice analysis:

(A) Strong and Out of scope: "iconoclastic" and "inconsistent with sound principles of structural design"?

(B) Strong: "Radical" shift?

(C) Nothing about "the public" in paragraph 3, but all we need to justify this claim is to know that Gray's architectural work was NOT her most famous work with the public. Line 1 tells us that Gray was "best known for her work with lacquer", which means that her architectural work (which is not lacquer) is LESS KNOWN than at least some of her other work.

(D) Out of scope: "Recent critics and scholars"?

(E) Strong: It was "NOT" influenced, at all?

Takeaway/Pattern: This is an obnoxious "needle in a haystack" correct answer. RC question stems with terms like "inferred / implies / suggests / most likely to agree" can often test random one-off lines in the passage. Part of the misdirect here is that the question stem offers the keywords "architectural work", so we naturally restrict our attention to the 3rd paragraph. However, if I was previously told that she is BEST known for lacquer, then I can infer that her architectural work is NOT #1.

can we take it from the first sentence that she is most famous for lacquer work so for sure architecture work is less well known than at least some other works of her??
