How is A the correct answer and not E?
We know from the rules that Natasha buys a fruit cup and if Lara and Mendel have to buy exactly 2 food items then Lara - Shish/Hot Dog & Fruit Cup ( because she cannot buy a Pretzel)

The inference you made is absolutely right. Take what you know and read the choices carefully.
L = S/H & F
M = P & S
N = F __ __
Look at (A). You yourself said it was true. Lara has the fruit cup.
Now look at (E). Do Lara and Natasha HAVE to share EXACTLY one? Or could they share two?
