Q16

by rbolden Thu Sep 30, 2010 12:57 am

Hello,

For this question I narrowed down the choices to A and B. I ended up choosing A. I can't see clearly why A is an incorrect choice. Can you please explain?

Thanks!

Notice that the author doesn't claim that these energy sources cannot be implemented profitably, but rather that they will need local participation.

The second paragraph is about the lack of local participation and the failure this caused. The third paragraph is about the presence of local participation and how this lead to an increase in energy profitability (lines 54-55). These support the claim in answer choice (B) that the author discusses factors that will favor successful implementation (local participation).

Does that help you see why answer choice (A) is wrong? The author simply doesn't claim that these technologies cannot be profitable.

Not sure how B is right? Feel like responses are talking about wrong question. Sort of lost here. Isn't B supported by paragraph 3 with Indina companies providing equipment?

Yeah, I don't understand WHAT'S going on up there in this thread. It looks like an answer to Q18 came swooping in, and then the next student is like, "makes perfect sense". :)

(B) would be the answer because line 46-58 can be used as support.
The mid-1980's collaboration between a Danish energy agency and agencies in India involved "local construction of turbines" (manufacture of equipment) and line 55 alludes to "the success of these small projects".

(A) We don't know of any specific system that uses fossil fuels

(C) We hear that there ARE larger transmission costs with fossil-fuels but don't learn of an example of an added cost.

(D) We never hear anything about how big a community a wind turbine plant can serve.

(E) We don't have an estimate in years for how long it takes locals to have the technical capacity to generate renewable energy.

Hope this helps.
