Hi, I was hoping to get some help on this question. A and E were rather easy eliminations, but I struggled with B, C and D. Here is my train of thought:
Question Type: Main Point
Pre-Phrase: Looks like there is no scale needed for this passage since it is informative. It discusses the work of two scientists experimenting with organic materials (peptides) to make them usable in tiny transistors for faster/stronger computers.
== Answer Choices ==
(A) This answer choice is too pessimistic. The passage suggests that the scientists' work is likely to lead to a breakthrough.
(B) I initially chose this answer because I felt C is too strong. Upon closer examination, I can see that this answer choice says "Advances ... depend on the outcome of various current research projects". The passage only talks about one research of Belcher & Hu, we don't know about other researches.
(C) Correct answer, I thought it was too strong and too optimistic, and the author is more neutral and open. Even though the passage does not say explicitly the last part of the answer, it is inferable.
(D) This answer choice does not cover the whole passage, it does not mention computers/transistors. Also, it says "semiconductor material binds to biological compounds", but line 34 suggests it's the other way around.
(E) The word "unexpected" turned me off. The scientists hypothesized that peptides can be helpful in nanoscale electronics, and they later found it to be true.
Any feedback would be appreciated. Please let me know whether my train of thought is correct.
