Q17

by JenniferK632 Mon Sep 07, 2020 11:08 am

Hi there, when I was doing this question, I wasn't able to eliminate many of the answer choices quickly. I scanned and chose the Kuno needing to be mayor restriction and moved on. Any advice on how to eliminate these kinds of more complex answer choices?

Questions that ask for rule replacement require a lot of work to disprove. I'm wondering how to strike that balance between being efficient and checking your work.

As much as possible, I try to predict what is needed from an answer. The rule tells us that K can't be nominated for councillor. Notice that it's about what cannot happen, not what must. We need to prevent K from being in C, but we don't need to know that K is in, and this rule doesn't seem to affect any other placements, so we don't want to drag in the other people.

So if K is not nominated for councillor, what are its options? Mayor, treasurer, or out. We already have a rule saying that only F or H can be treasurer, so we just need to say that K is either mayor or nothing. A quick scan then leads us to E. All the other choices drag in other people, so I would only look at those if I failed to find what I wanted!
