Q18 - Sid: The sign says "Keep off..."

by irini101 Tue Sep 06, 2011 3:42 pm

I narrow down to A and B, I understand why B is correct but get confused by A:

"attempts to use a statement about the consequences of actions to disprove a statement about the actions themselves."

I translate it this way: attempts to use the consequences "the grass would die" to disprove about the actions "walking across the grass".

Does it make sense? Could any one help and pinpoint the flawed part of the translation?

Thanks a lot!

I second this question as well, B is clearly correct but I can't pinpoint why A is incorrect.

Is the problem with A that Sid is not disproving a statement about the actions themselves, but rather of 'the multiplied effect' of the actions?

Micki gives a statement about the consequences of an action.

In an attempt to prove this statement false, Sid gives a statement about the consequences of a DIFFERENT action. (One person versus multiple people walking across the grass)

The part that makes A wrong is that it states "about the actions themselves" at the end.

A would have been a good answer choice had it stated:

"Attempts to use a statement about the consequences of an action to disprove a statement about the consequences of a different action."

This is essentially what B states.

I second what Timmy said, emphasizing this part:
The part that makes A wrong is that it states "about the actions themselves" at the end.
