Q2 - Randy: After Mega Cable Television

by fyami001 Tue Dec 13, 2011 2:54 pm

Hello. I found this weaken question difficult/time consuming when doing the practice test because of the format. The stimulus was between two people and I had problems finding the core for Randy's argument and Marions.

I could only find conclusions for these arguments.

How would one go about this the proper way?

Randy and Marion are arguing over why the mayor got some news service on TV. Randy says it's because she wants a diversity of views. So his argument core would be:

mayor wants diversity of views --> got Azco on TV

Marion says, no, the reason is that she's rewarding the news service's owner:

rewarding owner/supporter --> got Azco on TV

They're disagreeing over her motive.

(B) provides evidence that Marion's reasoning is flawed. If the mayor also got time for another news service that didn't support her, then Marion's argument is weakened.

(A) is out of scope. It doesn't matter why the owner supported her.

(C) So? It's not about their actual news coverage, but about whether she got 'em on the air because the owner supports her politically.

(D) is the opposite of what we want.

(E) completely irrelevant.

Hope this helps.
