Q20

by andrewgong01 Tue Jun 06, 2017 2:39 pm

For this question, is the support found around Lines 43-45 where it said eventually it emerged into "mature writing". I found this passage particularly hard to follow on what exactly the evolution was but my sense is that the tokens started out as really abstract (e.g. the sheeps in line 6) and then over time became more concrete? The passage was never really clear on what exactly it means to be "abstract" and we had to infer some things were indeed abstract

What we call this development a prelude into the modern languages though? The main point question, Q15, has Choice "D" as an incorrect answer choice but it described the evolution as one that became a modern language.

Question Type:
Infer Information

Answer expected in lines/paragraph:
20-37

Any prephrase?
I would quickly summarize for myself the main bullet points I know about clay tokens from the 2nd paragraph: Started off simple, sometimes got kept in clay envelopes … later there were hundreds of new forms, including some with figures on them.

Correct answer:
C

Answer choice analysis:

(A) Can't find support for "more than one token described the same thing"

(B) No support for "a switch from agricultural goods to non-agricultural"

(C) Yes, lines 35-37 highlight that some of the new token forms were 'figurative' (i.e. had pictures/figures on them of what they represented), implying that previous forms were NOT all figurative. Also, what we know of previous forms in lines 20-22 says that they were "simple in form" and often inscribed.

(D) "The most important"? Too extreme

(E) "AS abstract and flexible"? Too extreme

Takeaway/Pattern: Because of how the question stem is worded, we shouldn't need to leave P2 to get our support.
