Q26

ok we have an inference question here
keywords: author, and then Field of sight.

we know we have to keep the authors opinion in mind when selecting an answer choice as well as being cognizant of what the field of sight explanation is. We know that the explanation is stated in paragraph 1. I am not going to go back and reread that entire paragraph but I remember that it is left to right, and rotates about a vertical axis. If I need to, I can refer back to this paragraph when I hit the answer choices.

A no support, I don't see the author mentioning this about field of sight explanation in the passage. The author says explicitly that front to back is based on this, but not field of sight. eliminate
B This is good. The author says that the new explanation, front to back, relies on the false premise. Lets look at other choices and come back.
C- no the explanation does take this into account, stated in the 1st paragraph. Eliminate
D- no. no support for this choice. Just reread the 1st paragraph. I don't see anything mentioning this, just talks about physicist explaining the field of sight theory. They don't talk about the people's understanding. Just talk about sight and mirror and axis and what not. Eliminate
E- no, can't say it is unsuccessful. The author doesn't say this or allude to this. The author is really against the front to back explanation but the author never mentions anything bad about field of sight. Just describes what the physicist say about that explanation.

ok so why is the answer B?

well what is the false premise? Treating the chair in the mirror as though it was real and 3d. Alright so looking at the 1st paragraph we don't see this false premise being utilized for this explanation. lines 4-10 describe the chair just being reversed around the axis. It's not treating it as if it was real or identical to the object being reflected.

Do I like this answer? no but it something the author would agree with. Another indicator, is line 21. "The most notable thing about this explanation" we have a clear indicator of authors opinion/tone here about the front to back explanation specifically. With this information I feel confident enough to select B.

Now did I do this during the exam? no, I got the 5 minute warning on question 23 but I had a solid understanding of the passage structure so I was easily able to answer the remaining questions. I saw B and it was the answer I selected and I moved on. I knew it was correct due to my understanding of the passage and specifically knowing that the field of sight is only talked about in paragraph 1. the false premise was stated in paragraph 2 and it is ONLY about front to back explanation.

Can someone provide more details explaining why B is the correct answer? Thank you! :)
