Good question! Take a look at the strength of the two answer choices. Answer choice (A) says that the passage presents a way in which something might happen. Answer choice (B) says that the passage provides proof of something.

The passage says that reversal phenomenon may be triggered when something disturbs the circulation pattern. The key word there being "may." Answer choice (B) is simply too strong.

Answer choice (A) represents the explanation discussed around the passage where blobs of different temperatures are discussed.

Lets look at the incorrect answers:

(B) is too strong for the reasons above.
(C) is interesting, but we're not discussing the Earth's exterior.
(D) is happening, but does not represent the reason why the information is discussed.
(E) is not the purpose of lines 34-38. The author is outlining possibilities at this point. The author's argument doesn't come into full effect until the final paragraph

Hope that helps!

Completely agrees with Matt here. On another note, B is actually a misinterpretation of the passage. the passage suggest that a disturbance of the heat circulation pattern would cause the reversal, yet B says it is the ventilation itself.
